Anyone adding a little zinc to their oil?
View attachment 6586 If anyone’s due for one, this Car Oil Change Service explains how professional servicing can keep your engine running cleaner and longer.
Interesting point about zinc I’ve noticed a lot of classic car owners still swear by adding a bit for extra wear protection. Personally, I focus more on sticking to high-quality oil and timely changes, which seems to make a bigger difference in performance.

I change my oil at less than 50 hrs. with Mobil 1 5w50 and 2 ozs. of zinc additive.

I'm not sure of the actual zinc content, but I know the Amsoil is 3 times better wear protection than Mobil 1. That is from the industry standard " four ball wear test".
That's great that you like it. I've never heard of a problem with Mobil 1.

Zinc is need in classic cars because of the flat tapped lifters in older engines. Low/no zinc will cause the cam to go flat.

Nope, waste of money if you use the right oil.
I use Rotella T6 5w40. It has:
1310 ppm zinc, 1157 ppm phosphorus
as compared to Polaris 5w50 which is 860ppm zinc and 756 ppm phosphorus
I run Rotella T6 in my Ranger, Turbo R, XP5, two tractors, two trucks, compact track loader and mini excavator

You're claiming that Amsoil is 3 times better so I thought you must know of some issue, 😆
Not really an issue… just different brands have different additives or formulas to their lubricants. Amsoil is one of the best oils by film strength, viscosity and breakdown tests. There’s nothing wrong with Mobile 1 either.

The main thing is to avoid mixing brands. Some of their additives aren’t compatible with the others and can cause problems.

I just like seeing what the Amsoi and Rotella guys have to say,😆

I have been using T6 since it came out in '16 on all of the equipment on the place. No issues in 10 years. We run T4 and its predecessor since the 80's until we moved to T6.
Amsoil has too many guys that they let become dealers and they push it all over the 'net
