Looks more like a slice than a pinch, but it is not leaking air.

The tires have about a 1000 miles on them. I am not sure if I should replace the tire and if I do, can I just replace the rear tire with the slice or would I need to replace both?

The longer term plan is to go to offset wheels and 33" tires. But I was going to wait until I needed to replace the tires.

Another question: how long to tires last?

Thanks
JG

Depends how bad the slice is.How long the tires last Depends on what terrain and driving habits.

Bring a spare or a GlueTread sidewall patch so you don't get stranded. Depending on how deep it is, it's certainly a weak point and could burst. You could even be proactive and put the sidewall patch on it now. That might buy you enough time until you're ready to replace with 33s.

I took another look (and a picture), I think it was a pinch. The trail was pretty rocky so the ride was pretty rough. After the first rocky part, we check the air pressure in the tires, there was 26 in the front and 29 in the rear. We put all of the tires to 15 pounds, which made the ride A LOT better.

I carry a spare and a patch kit. The spare is a front tires (10") so I don't want to leave it on permanently. I'll check with the dealer to see if they have a slightly used rear tire.

John. you can see on the wheel where the paint is scrapped. it was definitely a rock. there was a lot of sharp rocks on the ride

Rocks? What rocks? I didn't see any rocks

Yeah, I noticed the scrape in the paint when I took the picture. Pinches happen... it's a part of wheeling.

I'm not 100% sure I need to do anything. I could put a preemptive patch over it (as Zenyx suggested), or I could give All Terrain a call and see if they have a slightly used rear tires.

I would like to make these work until I can go with the 33" tires.

A pinch that bad will eventually give out. It’s good that it’s not leaking and got you back to the trailer, but I wouldn’t put a lot of faith in it going too much farther.

Most tire shops won’t touch a sidewall with a patch. Too much liability.

We have 3 or 4 sets of stock Xpedition tires here, with very few miles on them, but shipping anywhere very far from us gets pretty expensive. So we just have them for sale as pickup only anywhere between Mesquite, NV and Cedar City, UT

I use E6000 sealant on the slice. I suspect it will hold, but to be safe, I got a pretty good deal on a used tire. I checked the other tires and found another slice, this one on the front. I guess I'll be buying one of them too.

It won't hold.I used that to try and fix a cut in the tread one time.A tire flexes too much.
