We sold our very built 19 xp4 turbo a couple of months ago, because we really hadn’t used it much over the last couple of years choosing to take out our well built Jeep instead.

After selling the RZR my wife and I figured out it wasn’t that we enjoyed the Jeep that much more, we just really liked the climate controlled, dust free cab!

Taking on technical trails and climbing in a well built Jeep is awesome, but adventuring on narrow trails at speeds that you wouldn’t drive a Jeep.. is a different kind of fun!

Looking forward to picking up our new 26 xp5 Northstar next week.

I came from the Jeep world, and the Polaris Xpedition is definitely a different beast.

With my stock Xpedition compared to my 2” lifted Rubicon on 33s:
  • The Jeep feels way more sure-footed on technical trails.
  • The Xpedition can get a little tippy on the same obstacles, but it’s way more fun on everything else.
Using OnX trail ratings (Western CO — Silverton, Ouray, etc.):
  • In the Xpedition, I can do 100% of the 4/10 trails and most of the 5/10 trails.
  • I haven’t tried (and probably wouldn’t yet try) a 6/10 trail. With more seat time (I’ve got about 1,000 miles so far), I may work my way up in a year or two.
  • I did 7/10 trails in the Jeep.
  • Side note: We almost always ride by ourselves, at my age, I am less inclined to take risks. When riding with friends, I am a bit more adventurous.
Dust Prevention (my take):
  • Jeep: 9/10 dust prevention (best).
  • Xpedition: 5/10. (you will have to clean it from time to time.)
  • Open UTV: 0/10 (dust everywhere).
When it comes to cleanup:
  • Open UTVs and the Xpedition: just spray them out and go.
  • Jeep without carpet: can’t spray the dash/some seats, so cleanup takes more effort.
  • Jeep with carpet: total pain — basically needs to be hand-washed.
BTW: I am not taking shots at the Xpedition, I LOVE MY XP5. So much so, that we are looking to settle down (sell the RVs and buy a house) and I am only considering places where I can ride the XP5 everywhere (and states with no income taxes.) I also want to be able to play in the snow in the winter. Some of the top contenders, Arrowhead Ranch in Cimarron, CO (yes, CO has taxes, but I love that place), Custer, SD and Cody, WY.
