Maine riders weight issue

I am thinking of writing some petition letters to various entities, If other states have increase this limit how did they manage the claims of damage to the trails. Is the land in those states harder than in Maine? If we can get a list of people that would be willing to sign their name I can start figuring out how to do it. Let me know what you all think.

What funny about this whole thing is that the sub 2K pound machines for the most part, are RZRs. You don't buy a RZR to go for a leisurely ride. It's a silly law.

Are they enforcing that law?

Since you can't register the machine any more you risk a ticket or I have heard that they are threatening with impounding the machine. Can they do it? I don't know.

Here is a link to the taskforce: Governor’s Task Force on All-Terrain Vehicle Trail Initiatives: Maine Dept of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife

On that page, there is a list of the taskforce members. I sent an email to the taskforce chair basically stating that the sub 2000 pound UTV are designed for going fast and for the most part, that is how they are driven. Xpeditions and Rangers are used for adventure riding and work. They will have way less impact on the environment than machines designed for thrill riding.

I doubt I'll get a response, but it got to start somewhere.

I agree with you. I was thinking reaching out to the dealers and also Polaris. Polaris gives grants to the clubs. Governments want to go green what is going to happen when these machines end up with Lithium ion batteries increasing their weight? I feel we need a group of about 1000 riders to petition.
