Sleeping, Bed, Pad, Camping; ADV5

Has anyone found a third party supplier for a sleeping pad in the ADV5 Ultimate? Roof top tent or stand alone on ground tent are always options. Looking for quick sleeping arrangement when I'm overlanding and want to stay the night.

If you have the roof rack, pretty much any brand of Rooftop Tent will work. We use 23Zero for our camp trailers and they would work on the ADVs as well.

If it’s for a single person, the Kabari or wedge style RTT is the fastest setup and set down time. This one is less than 1 minute to setup. It’s also the lowest profile.



For 2+ people, the Armadillo RTT has a Hardshell top and medium setup/set down time. Generally about 5-10 minutes.


And then they have the Walkabout that’s very similar to the Polaris Tent. It has a soft cover and takes the most time for setup/setdown at around 15 minutes total.


There are multiple brands with similar designs, some less expensive and some more. 23 Zero is the only one I’ve seen with Light Suppression Technology in their fabrics. They can be pitch black inside in the middle of the brightness part of the day.

For ground tents, the best quality canvas tents I’ve seen are from Kodiak Canvas.

JT, Wow, those are some amazingly clean installations. You must run a tour company? Usually when I stay overnight I have my 2 pups with me so a roof rack install is not really an option for our sleeping pattern. I need to look into Kodiak. Right now I have a cheap popup ground tent which has worked out ok in the past. I may play around with fabricating a make shift sleeping pad to fit in the ADV5 if I can't find a third party who makes a custom unit like they do for Telsa's etc.

Both the Armadillo and Walkabout Rooftops from 23 Zero have an option for an Annex that zips on around the entrance and drops down to the ground, adding a fully enclosed ground room for pets, kids or just a nice privacy area for dressing, standing up. They do add some time to the setup but once you’ve done it a few times it’s fairly quick.

If the Ground tents is going to be the better option, Kodiak is the best quality I’ve seen.

For sleeping pads, you might look into Backpacking air mattresses. They pack up really small and are anywhere from 3”-6” thick aired up. They can be reasonably comfortable to sleep on. There’s a ton of different brands on Amazon on you can probably find some at your local sporting goods store.

thanks for the tips. I checked out your web site Home - HighCountry Unlimited Your trailers are first rate ... great functional designs, solid construction and styled with an appealing flair. Next time I'm over your way I may stop in to your shop to look.... We do Logandale Trails, Gold Butte, etc. during the colder months.

I love this area for riding. There’s so many trails in any direction you choose and, like you said, especially great for riding in the colder months.
SxS Society has a ride planned for this Saturday from Whitney Pockets out to Devils Throat, Little Finland and the slot canyon.
