Turf Mode Light

I never noticed this before, but when I switch to Turf Mode while in Park, the indicator light stays on 2-wheel drive. When I shift out of Park, the light switches to one-wheel drive. If I shift back in to Park, the 2-wheel drive indicator light comes back on.

Is that normal?

My Xpedition does the same thing. Pretty much normal operation.

Mine does the same thing. It also does it in four wheel. It takes a bit to get used to it.

Cool, thanks. I just never noticed it before.

When I started the XP, the display showed it was in 2-wheel drive, and I thought, “Please tell me I didn’t just drive home on the road in 2-wheel.”

Then I looked at the switch and it was in Turf Mode.

So I shifted into reverse, the display changed to 1-wheel, and I was like, “Good news, I’m not going crazy. The XP is.”

The reason it does that is so on a steep incline both rear wheels maintain traction where as if it didn't one wheel would slip forward and the other back and away your side x side would go.

So it's not that the indicator is wrong, it is actually in 2-wheel drive when its in park. Smart.

Yes it always will lock the differential when it is in park.

Actually. When you look up to the left corner of the dash panel, you will see a figure of 4 wheels connected my lines. The lower right wheel will be red. That's what tells you what mode you are in. In Turf Mode you have disconnected the two rear axles. So like a car or pickup, the rear wheels roll indenpendently. Thus, in a turn the inside tire isn't scuffing and sliding. That's Turf Mode.
Shift to two wheel drive and both lower wheels will be red. Shift to AWD and all four wheels will be red.

The red indicators go off when you put it in Park. The ECU doesn't know what you have chosen. Put it in gear, and whatever mode you have selected. Those wheels will turn red.

That is the indicator that changes when you shift from park to high (or low).
