Hello. Had my XP5 Northstar recently serviced, and have not started in about 2 weeks. It's garage kept in about 40-50 degrees F. Tried to start it but somehow the battery went dead. Lights came on and everything, so was not fully drained, but clicking when I tried to start it. I have since recharged the battery via a battery tender and all appears well. Not sure why the battery drained itself, but was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them? I remember my General would do the same thing if not started for about a month. Do these machines with all their electronics and such, just trickle out the battery power when sitting for an extended time?

Do you have any electronic accessories installed or is it just stock?

If everything is wired through the busbar, it should disconnect all power to the accessory wire a few seconds after key-off. Occasionally the relay for the busbar can get faulty and allow a trickle through. Also some accessories wire to the battery wire of the busbar and then use the accessory wire to turn them on or off.

The only time my battery ran dead from sitting I’d left my Rugged Radios on, which are wired to the battery. Other than that, it has sat for a couple months without draining the battery.

It’s stock with exception of turn signal/horn, and extra USB charging port/rocker switch. Both are wired to the bus bar. Will just have to keep an eye on it I guess. Maybe when it was at the dealer they drained the battery? I just don’t know. lol. Thanks JT!

Those USB charging rockers can cause battery drainage. We’ve had one do it before. I’d check the wiring on that and make sure it’s wired to the accessory wire from the busbar and not the battery wire. If it stay powered up with the key off, that could be your culprit.

I’ve recently started experiencing battery drain or atleast the notification from Polaris app, that I need to plug battery in. Key is out of ignition, all my accessories are in the bus bar upfront so not sure what is causing this drain. Anybody else experiencing this? I’ve owned the machine since July 2023, all original battery etc.

I have battery disconnects on both my Xpedition and Turbo R. The Ranger is used everyday so no issues with it, as a matter of fact the stock battery lasted from 2015 to 2024

It's a good idea to keep it plugged in to a smart trickle charger, one that doesn't over charge and shuts down when at proper voltage. It's so easy with that charging port at front at left headlight.

Found it thank you special charger for these things ?
No, just look for one that is a "smart" charger that only charges when needed and doesn't over charge. Battery Tender is a common brand, they are small and usually have multiple connectors to use. The one on the ADV is common, same as some motorcycle ones. One pin is male and uncovered and one is female and covered.
