Yesterday while riding on a level well groomed dirt road I noticed that the engine RPM was reading about 8500 RPM and my speed was only 30 mph.
This really seemed odd, about 2500 RPM above my normal rpm for that speed. The actual engine speed sounded normal and throttle position also seemed normal. I also noticed the instrument panel brightness would sometimes flicker, dimming then going back to normal.
I stopped to see if I had smoked the belt. There was no burning smell or smoke. I turned the engine off and restarted the engine, everything was back to normal for the rest of the ride.
So...
Has anyone else experienced something like this and did you find the cause?
