This is a response to another thread, and I thought I would post it as new content to let folks know what my process has been. My Xpedition currently has about 2700 miles and about 220 hours. I have had 1) steering rack banging, 2) vibration under driver' floorboard, and 3) ridiculous oil consumption; about 1/2 quart every 30-50 hours no matter the ride type or terrain. I still can't believe Polaris didn't use a remote oil filter location with a oil tank to get more fluid in these machines as 2.5 quarts total oil on a machine this heavy is suspect.
---
UPDATE: Polaris ended up not replacing the engine. Instead, they replaced all of the intake seals, oil pan seal, and head gasket. Still burned oil at a rate of 1/2 quart every 50 hours after all the seal replacements. That process took about 6 weeks to get approved, and the dealer one day to do the work. When I called back, my 6-month warranty had expired, dealer told me to bring it in for another check. They felt the valve seals needed replaced to cure the oil consumption problem as polaris has a new valve seal design/part number. Quoted nearly $5000 for mostly labor. When I questioned why the valve seals wouldn't be covered under the (extended) warranty. The response was "I didn't see that in your details" even though I had purchased the warranty through the dealer. Once they "found" the warranty, it took 8 more weeks of back and forth with polaris asking for more scope photos, leak-down tests, compression tests...before being approved for repair under that warranty. Took the dealer 2 days to complete the repairs once warranty work was approved and I cannot imagine it took 26 hours of labor to do so which is what they had said originally. I have ridden about 15 hours since the repair with 4 hours of that on a single non-stop 80 mile trail ride and no noticeable difference in oil level on the dipstick. Let's hope this repair sticks. I still have the clunk in the front end; "within tolerances", and the occasional vibration under my foot on the driver' side. No clue what the driver' side vibration is but it is intermittent.
I did price out a Talon 4 and a CanAm Commander max 4, but the Talon was $7000 with my trade and the CanAm was $6300. My decision to sell/trade has changed, and I am going to keep the Xpedition until there is about 8 months left on warranty, and I will sell it private party.
