I have a RotoKap on my Xpedition. I love the cap, but I am not fond of their latches that lock the cap closed nor am I fond of their tailgate lock.... So, to kill two birds with one stone, I'm going to build my own tailgate lock that will lock the kid of the cap to the tailgate.
I am picturing a 7" x 2.5" piece of 1/8" stainless plate. It will have two holes that correspond to the screw inserts that are in my cap lid (these were used for the RotoKap tailgate lock bracket.) It will also have a 1/4" X 1" slot that will go over a staple (the fixed part of a hasp.)
I am not sure about drilling into the top of the tailgate or if there is anything under it that I can screw into. If it is an open space, I could put wood or a metal plate under the staple.
Has anyone taken the tailgate apart enough to know if there is space under that top edge plate?
