So I just purchased a new ADV 5 that now has a total of 8 miles on it. While I was driving it in my field, I noticed alot of bluish white smoke behind me and it smelled nothing like engine oil. I pulled over and it was smoking out of the exhaust tailpipe like crazy. I then turned around to head back home and it cleared up so I did another lap around the field and it came back while going down a small grade and then cleared up. I’m not sure if something came apart inside of the muffler or there was extra oil of some sort inside the exhaust or the converter? Just wondering if anybody else experienced this. I have owned several side-by-side‘s and four wheelers over the past 20 years and have never seen anything like this.

Take it back.

This is actually fairly common. Polaris doesn’t run the motors after assembly, other than to load and unload from transport. There’s generally still a bit of assembly lubricants and oils that haven’t burned out, until it’s run at full throttle for a bit.

I’d take it for a few rides before worrying. If it continues to smoke after 50+ miles, then you may have an issue that needs looked at.

Mine put out a very small amount of white smoke at first, and stunk, but went away after a couple 15 mile rides. I agree with JT. It’s probably leftovers after assembly. I’d take it for a couple more rides.

I had the same issue when my machine was brand new. The dealer said not to worry, that it was just burning off the lubricants and oils as mentioned above. After a few rides, it went away.

Did it clear up after more driving or did you have to take it in to your dealer?

It did end up clearing up. It’s perfectly fine now no smoke. Must’ve been left over coating oil or something in the exhaust system. They told me at the dealership that this isn’t out of the ordinary. They told me that usually they start them and let them run for a while and then take them for a short spin to burn all that coating out of the exhaust.
