we all know the outside locks are a pain In the ass. I sprayed them like many have suggested and yes definitely made them better. but I went to unlock my driver door and my key broke. Thank God not inside the lock but I pulled it out fast enough and its hanging by a thread. So now my driver door and back hatch is locked and I'm headed for a trip to maine on Friday. Dealership tells me they don't make replacement keys?!! all locks themselves must be replaced, wtf? anyone else with this issue of the key snapping? Are all keys made specifically per machine? I assume, or I'd find someone to help me unlock my doors for the time being. Thank you!

I shouldn’t say any key making place… I doubt Walmart or the like would have the blanks. But I know my local Ace hardware does and I’d assume Lowe’s , Home Depot and other hardware chains would have them.

I also double checked my key against another Xpedition here in my shop and they’re definitely keyed differently.

I did try home depot and lowes with no luck unfortunately. May have to go to an actual locksmith that remakes them. Thanks for checking on that 👍

Just re-uping this thread. Dang key broke in my passenger lock but was able to pull it out. Cannot say my locks are any looser yet despite plenty of spray and working them, but the working caused the key to weaken. Ran around flagstaff to 5 diff shops plus the dealer - no dice yet. With one working key, I wont be locking anything. Anyone find an easy option yet to order replacements before I complain directly to Polaris? Grrrr

Update: Did find a locksmith in Flagstaff that found a solution - Used a Southco Blank R008 since they did not have the Polaris banks either (nobody seems to here). Took 1 minute and $12 but works like a charm.
Also: Looked back at all the advice to loosening up these dang locks - and this seemed to work best for me, at least for now. Can finally lock the wifey’s purse in the rig, thanks @bobcat, the ‘key’ is working the lock with the handle pulled, much easier!

"Take some good lock lubircant and spray some in the keyhole. Then pull the handle and spray some in handle mechanism (right side). With the handle pulled out, take your key and twist it back and forth in the lock ten times. May need to do it a couple times. Eventually the key lock mechanism will free up. Saves taking it apart or to dealer. Good Luck"

as far as the lock itself goes you should not spray anything in them . Things like WD40 and such will slowly collect dust and dirt and gum up . Use graphite .

Yeah, good point, I did try graphite first (cannot recall the brand but the kind that is in a sprayable solution that evaporates - for locks) and it did not seem to help much. This time I admit I used a silicone spray, and wonder if the procedure of working it with the handle open made a difference. Will likely hit it again with the graphite and hope that displaces any residual oil.

I was going to post the same thing. Shortly after buying out XP5, I took it to a locksmith and had him make some extra keys (we like to keep an extra set in the tow vehicles). Glad you found a solution.

My rear passenger door was becoming very hard to lock and unlock. It was not the cylinder, it was the locking mechanism in the door. I sprayed it down with WD40 and it works like new... and if it gets dirty and gums up again, I'll spray it down again.

Use the dry powder in a tube and shoot it in .

It would be as good as not having locks if all Xpeditions were keyed the same.

Depending where the key broke, any key making place should be able to copy it.
Not so, I have a local key shop & he has tried ordering several key blanks over more then a month & no luck. I was able to find a replacement ignition key on etsy but that vendor also said no on the door or rear window key

Yeah, it was an assumption that’s since been proven wrong. Polaris is going a lot more towards proprietary stuff in their machines.

Hey JT, I had 2 extra keys made by a local guy. The key blanks are not Polaris branded but they work in the doors of my XP5. Unfortunately, the keys are in CO and I am in FL. If you can wait until mid February, I'll be back in CO and I'll take pictures of the brand and key number

Since mine is an Ultimate, it doesn’t have door locks. But my Brothers is and does. Our local Ace Hardware carries a lot of odd key blanks, and if they don’t have it, they’ll typically can order it.
We’ve never had the need on the Xpeditions or Rangers yet, so I haven’t checked them.

Key blank is a ILCO 1611 , my local hardware store had them in stock. Also check with your local RV shops for key blanks R008 as many RV's use a Southco brand lock , same brand Polaris uses for the Xpedition. locks

ilco USA blank key 1611 is the only blank that work for the X door locks
